Activator Method

The Activator Method is a type of chiropractic manipulation offered here at Motion Wellness Chiropractic of  Princeton, MN and Andover Chiropractic of Anoka, MN. Dr. Keith Billstein, our resident chiropractic expert, has been recognized as having Advanced Proficiency in this technique since 1990. Patients trust him to deliver fantastic results for themselves and their animals with this treatment method every single day.

What is the Activator Method?

Put simply, the Activator Method is a style of spinal manipulation which uses a small electric or spring-loaded device to apply pressure to targeted areas of the body. It is low-force and generally painless. The technique was invented by Minnesota-born chiropractor Dr. Arlan W. Fuhr nearly 50 years ago, according to the Activator Method's own website. It provides an alternative to riskier adjustment techniques.

During a session, human patients generally lie face down on the table. The doctor will then place the device over a series of target areas and apply a quick, small thrust. This is intended to shift vertebrae or joints into healthier positions while causing minimal discomfort and muscle tension. Multiple sessions are necessary to experience the full results of this technique. Dr. Billstein at Motion Wellness Chiropractic of Princeton, MNand Andover Chiropractic of Anoka, MN, loves this method for its ability to help patients achieve optimal musculoskeletal health.

Who can the Activator Method Treat?

The Activator Method can be used to treat a wide array of musculoskeletal issues— nearly anything treatable by other types of manipulation. It can improve spinal misalignment, pain and headaches, subluxation, TMJ, and other issues. This technique is not suitable for patients with cancer, open wounds in target areas, neurological issues, or fractures in target areas.

The Activator Method is a versatile and approachable chiropractic manipulation treatment using a handheld device.
